Silver Box Acquires Mobius Motors Kenya, Set to Launch New Model in December 2025.

Silver Box, a Middle East-based investment firm specializing in corporate management and advanced technology, has acquired Mobius Motors Kenya, a locally renowned automotive manufacturer known for its rugged, Kenya-tailored vehicles. The deal marks a significant shift in Kenya’s automotive sector and is expected to enhance the growth and sustainability of the Mobius brand.

Founded over 14 years ago with an investment of approximately KES 5 billion, Mobius Motors has cemented its place in Kenya’s automotive industry by producing durable, locally assembled vehicles tailored to the country’s unique road conditions. Under the new ownership, Silver Box aims to maintain and expand Mobius Motors’ legacy by introducing new vehicle models and increasing market penetration.

The acquisition has already led to key operational changes, with the service center reopening and the resumption of vehicle servicing. According to the company, production will ramp up in the coming months, with the full-scale manufacture of the Mobius 3 model set to resume by July 2025. A newly developed vehicle model, designed to enhance off-road capabilities, is scheduled for launch by December 2025.

Silver Box’s leadership transition has seen John Kavila appointed as the new Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Mobius Motors. With extensive expertise in manufacturing, operations, and customer service, Kavila is expected to drive the company’s strategic expansion.

“I am deeply honored to lead Mobius Motors, a company renowned for its bold and innovative approach to creating a truly unique Kenyan brand,” said Kavila. “Mobius Motors has built an exceptional foundation, and we are eager to build on this success by focusing on expanding our market share and increasing accessibility for Kenyan consumers.”

Silver Box has emphasized its commitment to preserving and enhancing the Mobius brand, ensuring that the company remains focused on designing high-quality, affordable vehicles for the Kenyan market.

Outgoing CEO Nicolas Guibert expressed confidence in the company’s future under Silver Box, stating, “Among the three bids, Silver Box’s offer stood out as the best choice not only for ensuring the continuity of Mobius but also for driving its growth and success in the next phase.”

Guibert further noted that John Kavila’s leadership, coupled with financial and strategic backing from Silver Box, will allow Mobius Motors to introduce new vehicle models, develop a service station network, and establish a stronger presence in the African automotive market.

Last year, Mobius Motors Kenya announced its closure after struggling to settle supplier payments and employee salaries as operational debts mounted. The automaker stated in a notice that shareholders had resolved, in a meeting, to liquidate the company.

Mobius Motors began its journey with considerable optimism and support. The company’s first model, the Mobius II, was introduced in 2014, designed specifically for African roads with a high ground clearance, reinforced suspension, and a simple, reliable engine. Priced at approximately $10,000, the vehicle was significantly cheaper than most competitors, making it accessible to a broader demographic.

Mobius Motors has long been a trailblazer in Kenya’s automotive industry, developing vehicles specifically designed for the country’s diverse and often challenging terrains. With Silver Box’s support, the company is set to reinforce its position as a leader in sustainable, locally focused vehicle production.

The acquisition is expected to inject fresh momentum into Kenya’s automotive industry, offering consumers a wider range of durable and affordable vehicles while also fostering local manufacturing and job creation.
